The long road.

So its been awhile since I’ve posted here and the few people who happen to randomly pass by here are wondering what happened to me i’m guessing.  A few weeks ago, I went out to Virginia for a few days to meet my mom and little brothers.  Thats an experience.  I’ve seen it on tv plenty of times, but nothing quite puts it into perspective as when you experience it.  I stayed there for a week, and then came back home.  Also, my truck has officially died.  It still runs, surprisingly, but it is really no longer drivable.  The front driver side wheel has busted just about everything that is holding it on, and its gonna cost about 2 grand to get it fixed.  As much as I love the truck (you know, first vehicle and all) all good things must come to an end.

I was pretty upset about the whole thing until I got to talk to Kennedy again.  It always amazes me how much better the sound of her saying “Hi Daddy” makes me feel.  God do I miss her.

Other than that, work is good, and such.  I am going to get a second job here soon part time so that I can get myself a new vehicle.

Lego Portal!

Enough is enough, and it’s time for a change!

So in the several years that I have been alive, there have been a few presidential elections that I have been around for.  Fewer that I remember, and only 2 that I have been able to take part in.  During the I wasn’t able to vote during the (non anti-christ) Clinton era, but I voted in the first election that got Bush in office. I again voted against him in 2004 (hmm…  I’ve heard the theory that votes don’t count, but here it was an actual fact.  He lost the popular vote, but was still re-elected!).  I’ve said the same thing for years since then…  Our “democracy” is a joke.  No longer is it about who can do more for the country and the world we live in, but who can do the most to make their friends and fellow party members richer?  It’s no wonder that there is no chance of a non-democrat or non-republican getting into a higher office as there are so many people who are so brainwashed that they automatically vote along their party lines even when they disagree with the policy or the person’s ideas!  Is it just me or is something wrong with that?  On top of that, we spend millions, if not billions of dollars on election campaigning which is just about who can dig up the most dirt on their opponent, and the primaries and caucuses to determine the person who gets to run.  It really doesn’t make sense to me.  We have en election, to select the person who we then vote for in another election, and then really when it comes down to it, doesn’t count for anything as the Electorial College has the final say.

Ironically, the electorial college was created because the founding fathers felt that the common voters were not intelligent enough to select the right person to be president.  I bet when they made that policy they didn’t see the bullshit that is today’s election process in their thoughts of future American politics.

Seriously people… shut up already

I am so sick and tired of the constant reporting we see in the news media today that video games cause kids to kill.  Seriously?  Are you fucking kidding me?  I have been playing video games for as long as I can remember.  I have never killed anyone.  Many of my friends have been playing games as long or longer than myself, and THEY have never killed anyone.

People  keep blaming the games themselves on the issues with kids today yet they never look at the real issue.  THE PARENT WHO ALLOW THEIR KIDS TO PLAY THEM!  Come on people.  You can’t discipline your kids these days without child services having a talk with you and possibly removing your children from your care.  When I was growing up, if I did something bad, I got a crack on the ass for it, and I learned not to do it again.  I learned the difference between right and wrong.  Today, parents willingly buy M rated games for their children then they wonder why they are violent.  Hmm…  You know..  when the label say M 17+ only, it’s probably there for a reason.

Also don’t feed me that bullshit of “oh, the kids are there alone for several hours a day so we can’t watch what they are doing, and it’s their dad or mom’s game.”  If parents these days were allowed to punish their kids we wouldn’t see this type of thing going on all the time.  Every time there is a shooting at the school, you have the All – Star team of Jack Thompson and Hilary Clinton start in on it had to be video games that caused them to commit the act, not the fact that their parents let them play the M rated 17+ games in the first place and failed at teaching them what is right and what is not.

Look at yourself before blaming others people.  It doesn’t take a community to raise a child, it takes a parent willing to raise that child and take responsibility for their actions.

What a wonderful thing Google is

So after 26 years, I have found my birth mother.

I was born in Tacoma, WA in 1981.  My legal mother was Sue Dressler.  Unfortunately, she passed away when I was very young.  I was raised by her sister, and for what its worth, it helped me be the person I am today.  I have known for many years that I was adopted and have spent a lot of time trying to find out who my real parents were.  I have had a name for awhile now but just not all the info i needed.  Over the past few days with a little help from Linda, I got the last bit of information required.  Using Google I was able to pull up the right information and after a few calls, I was able to get a hold of her.  The feeling is unlike anything in the world.  Finding out where you really come from and that you have 2 little brothers is amazing.  There were no hard feelings at all, just a feeling of gladness that permeated my entire body.

We have lots to talk about and lots of pictures to share.  It took me a long time to do it, but thats another step down a path I have been trying to find for a very long time.

Oh my God! I didn’t lose them!

So I made it through an entire day without losing my new contacts.  A very good thing, as the last 4 sets I have had, within hours of getting them from the doctor, one or both of them seem to fall out and if you have ever lost a contact before, are not easy to find.  At first I thought it was me just being a noob not able to wear them correctly, but the doctor reassured me that its the astigmatism that is causing it, and I just have to find the right ones to get them wear correctly.  Hopefully these ones work out correctly.

In more blog related events, is anyone really not interested in the Super Bowl this year?  Being a Cowboys fan, i want to root against the Giants because they knocked my team out of the play-offs, but I really want to see the Pats get their block knocked off.  Hopefully it ends up being a good game like the Giants last few Play-off games and not the blow out by NE that everyone assumes it will be.  If all else fails…  rumor is there are some damn good commercials slated for this year.

Mass Effect and the “Se”Xbox

If you are interested in gaming at all, you have probably heard or seen about all the fun that happened on Fox News’ show Live Desk A little over a week ago.  If you haven’t, watch it here.  I remember watching that and wanting to scream at the stupidity of the Fox reps on the show.  Both of them admitted to never playing the game, but were apparently experts in the topic as they had a wide variety of information to give, which most of it turned out to be false.  There was a lone guest there named Geoff Keighley who really had no chance from the start.  After this aired, gamers across the globe took their frustrations out on Cooper Lawrence’s book page on Amazon.com.  She happened to be the “expert” that was invited to criticize the game.  Reviwers on the Amazon site lambasted her and the book as a fraud, fake, ignorant and other such things using the same tactic she did in giving an expert opinion on a subject she knew nothing about.  Since then, she has come forth and stated that she was incorrect about the topic and gave a half hearted apology.  It’s a start, but Fox itsself needs to recant the statement, which so far they have refused to do, stating that they have invited EA (the owner of BioWare, who created Mass Effect) on the show but EA has yet to respond.

Common sense here says I don’t blame them for not responding though.  There was someone there who was trying to give the correct information about the game and never really got to say anything.

Hopefully this will be a start of people seeing the mass news media shows as nothing more than political agenda and perhaps get something useful on them occasionally.  Not likely though.

More on this later as it develops.
